Off White Mens Tee takes me to Church

Some Thoughts

I have one question for you my lovely people. What are the Sundays for? I mean for you personally! What do you do? Do you do home work? Do you spend the time with the family or the beloved person? Are you cooking a delicious meal or doing the hoovering? What about brunching? Visiting that fancy restaurant around the corner? Or do you simply and utterly do some work, as if the week was not enough?

Some Revelations

What about going to church? No, seriously! I found myself the other day listening to the lyrics of one of my favorite songs ever written. Hoozier: Take me to Church! And that made me think. About the hectic day life we all live and how we always complain about something. The time is never enough, the boss is stupid, the colleagues are piss pots, nothing goes on plan. Everything looks like shit and you do not recognize that person staring at you from the mirror. What a nightmare!

I put a simple off white t-shirt on, jumped into my dungarees and went out, grabbing my iPod shuffle, to hear to the lyrics one more time.

My lover’s got humor
She’s the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody’s disapproval
I should’ve worshiped her sooner
If the heavens ever did speak
She’s the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday’s getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
“We were born sick”
You heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me “worship in the bedroom”
The only heaven I’ll be sent to
Is when I’m alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
Amen, Amen, Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life

At some point we all are so self absorbed and so caught up into the stereotypes of our society, that we are the only ones to blame for our downfall. But is that the only path for each and every one of us?  Or is there something we could do? I kept asking myself that question while walking. No destination. No time limit. The path took me to an old and almost abandoned looking church in American style. It was funny to me: Could i enter the holly home wearing just what i was wearing? Missing a suit, a tie and formal clothes.  And here again the stereotypes. What a conundrum. But we are all the same in the face of God. So why so formal then? Anyhow then and there i decided: rules no more, or at least not all the time. Because of these states of mind we all suffer. Due to that suffering we attract even worst situations. While trying to figure it all out we miss out. In conclusion i can only say: Stay true to yourself and do what makes you happy and is good for you. By doing that you will feel much lighter and carefree. You would say: easier said than done! Maybe you are right. Probably even. But it is your life on the line. And sometimes a change is necessary. Even more so in the right direction.
For me the right direction on that day consisted in a simple white tee from H&M, Zara ripped dungarees, white sneaker, my Fendi karlito clutch and Moschino shades. And that took me to Church…

  1. Your writing is so beautiful. And I believe you could wear that amazing outfit anywhere! This is the kind of outfit I love to wear – casual yet attractive. You look great, as always.

  2. Love this casual look!
On Sundays I usually go to church, brunch and try to relax a little. I usually spend them with my BF 🙂
And I agree with Church and clothing, we are all the same in the eyes of God. You can dress however you want to go to my church just FYI 🙂

  3. I read the title of the blog post and wondered if it was a coincidence or if you were referring to one of my very favorite songs! I was delighted to see that yes, and glad that you even included them. It’s so true that we are all so busy, going in so many different directions and we can fall away from church and the most meaningful things. The song to me speaks out against judgemental behavior which I can totally relate to after growing up in a very strict Catholic Church. I attend a different one, nowadays, with my family is feel that church and religion is what you make it. You definitely styled this shirt and entire outfit perfectly for church or anywhere! Love it all!

  4. I’m so glad you decided to write about this topic today and I came across it! I grew up around stereotypes, that you had to wear this and that, otherwise people would look at you crazy and judge. But why is that? Why do we really attend in the first place? If we know this, then why does it matter what we wear? I think you look great. If the Bible says come as we are, we shouldn’t take that too seriously and just wear what we want!

  6. Babe, your writing never disappoints and neither do your pictures, but it’s the content of this post that is fascinating me the most. I am not ashamed to say I believe in God and occasionally when I have time I do attend Sunday services at my local church, but I’m not a regular church goer. I believe my faith is strong whether I visit His house or not. However, I love churches for their stunning architecture and for the peace and tranquility I get there. So, yeah, take me to church with you.
