The Approach
My dear friends…. the project I will be presenting in a few seconds… was a long process in the making. A few months ago the Swedish site Photowall contacted me. The Email I received was friendly, genuine and honest. An opportunity emerged with one simple question… “Would you like to take part in the launch of Martin Bergström for photowall?” Many of you may have heard the name of this exceptional Swedish designer. I have as well… As a matter of fact I can still recall the Svartan Collection he did with Ikea in 2015, which launched 2016. It was about seeing the other face of India… not the colorful and bright one…but the black and white one… with shades of grey.
But back to current events. I received quite detailed information about the Bergström collection of wallpapers… which was about to come out on the 14 of March. And since I am a child of nature… as soon as I heard that the main focus would be floral…. I was all in.
The collection: Flora Hysterica
The collection Flora Hysterica consists out of 5 wallpapers… Each of them is an unique piece of art with the most spectacular history. While looking so modern and sophisticated Flora Hysterica is actually based on pressed dried flowers with an ancient past. Because that is the idea behind it… to breathe new life in these hundreds of years old Nordic flowers. Also to show their beauty and to let them shine in new vibrant light and colors. These are not just flowers… these are symbols. They tell a story, a story about the past, a story about the present… a story for the future… their own story.
Using quite the interesting technique dispersing aquarel paints on soaked paper and pressing the florals the designer managed to create breathtaking new worlds. And thanks to photowall… each and every one of us can have one of these in our homes… giving us the comfort…the strength and the cerenity of the Nordic flora over centuries.
